A blue egg laying, pure breed, originating from Chile. The Araucana is an unusual bird with a strange history in this country. Egg colour : Blue and green although colour can range from a greyish or violet blue to a turquoise or greenish blue. Khaki and olive can suggest outcrossing which has been known by some breeders. Origin : Arauca Indians of Northern Chile - Blue and green eggs have been reported from South America from the mid-sixteenth century onwards. The Americans have different standards for the Araucana : theirs are rumpless - that is they have no tail.
