This parasite lives and multiplies in the intestinal tract of a bird and causes tissue damage. This damage can interfere with the food digestion and nutrient absorption, as well as causing dehydration and blood loss.

[edit] Symptoms

The most easily recognized sign of severe cecal coccidiosis is the presence of bloody droppings. Dehydration may also be seen with cecal coccidiosis.

[edit] Treatment

Coccidiosis is prevented through good clenliness and litter control. Avoid letting the litter getting wet, especially under drinkers.Treatment of coccidiosis is used to control an outbreak. Amprolium, sulfadimethoxine, and sulfaquinoxaline are known to be effective against coccidia as a treatment.
